Skateboard Bearrings

Since the most important traveling feature to the skateboard itself is the trucks the internal workers of them should also be exposed to an investigative session to more fully understand how the skateboard maintains its movement.

The skateboard bearings are the primary component which prevents the wheel system from seizing after a few moments of movement. The bearings are small, mm wide, balls of steel, although a silicon nitride high-composition ceramic has been used in lieu of the steel. Typically the standard 608 bearings are used as per the industry’s production, although the diameter of the balls has been adjusted at times. The number of bearings found in each wheel at the terminal point of the axel, which is connected to the hanger and to the baseplate via the kingpin, is typically 6, although applications involving 7 bearings have been  produced.

The typical Annular Bearings Engineering Committee scale is used to signify which bearings have been rated according to what their standards, although this form of measurement is not necessarily conducive to the skateboard bearings application. The rating scale administered by the ABEC does not account for horizontal movement which is a heavy application in skateboarding. For this reason, skate specific skateboard bearings have been produced by companies such a Bones Bearings who advertizes their bearings as “skate rated,” although no qualifiers or measurements were given to back their marketing up. Bearings are a critical portion of the skating package that make sure that your wheels keep moving as they grease and facilitate the movement of the wheel around the axel.
